Hello. I am the topic necromancer.
So I finally got around to buying Bioshock, (£14 - bargain), and I'm loving it so much I would like to marry it and have its babies. The atmosphere is awesome and the mechanics are great.
Two problems though. One minor, one quite major:
- Scrolling the mousewheel to change weapon doesn't work. It changes weapon, sure, but it also makes me look at the ceiling or at the floor at the same time. Most annoying, but easily rectifiable by re-mapping mouse4 and mouse5 to change weapon instead.
- It doesn't work. *cries* Bioshock and my graphics card just don't get on. Every now and then during a graphics-heavy scene, (pretty much every Big Daddy fight), everything locks up and these funny red squiggles appear on the screen. I will post a photo of what it looks like later but I think I've found the problem on the Interwebs; it's basically down to insufficient cooling on the GPU. Underclocking the memory bus on the card seems to have worked, (as it's no longer working so hard), but only time will tell whether these problems are gone for good.
Don't get me wrong, it's pretty playable now I've patched both the game and the graphics drivers but it seems like everytime there's a firefight, the GPU craps its pants. Maybe it was down to how warm it was last night, (it was pretty damn hot in my study), but that really shouldn't make so much of a difference.
TBH, underclocking the memory speed hasn't made a difference to performance, (haven't noticed a drop), other than to, (hopefully), prevent the thing locking up on me.
