Hi guys, I know I haven't be around much lately, I have been out in the scary world of sun light and rain far too much. Anyway, some of you may remember I started making a SNES style RPG a while back...well this is the results:
Carmine SchismYou take the role of young officer Phrana as she tries to protect her world from a group of rebels calling themselves the ‘Carmine.’ But, as success mounts, Phrana is increasingly undermined and disturbed by her growing celebrity and comparisons to her war-hero father. A situation only made worse by the fact she isn’t even sure she is fighting for the right side…
Unfortunately the game is not complete. The software I was using just isn’t compatible with my new computer, which has cut the project dead in its tracks. A bit gutting really…it was a fun game to make and I had big plans for it. It also taught me quite a few things, like that I actually have a smidgen of artistic talent. Never mind, what is here is about ¼ of the game and should give 2-3 hours of game play.
You can download the file here:

http://tkool.jp/products/rpgxp/eng/rtp_download.htmlThe game is controlled with the arrow keys to move, space bar to interact, and Esc to bring up your inventory. You can press alt+enter to make the game window full size.
The original idea was to make a game where your moral decisions had a big impact on story line progression - do you let the invading army rape and pillage? Do you save the medical supplies for yourself or give them to the villagers? Do people see you as a saviour or a tyrant and help or hinder your missions? - but those kind of decisions won't have a big impact in this demo-length version. There are a number of interesting features that do work well though:
-Combat is split between shooting at your enemy with a gun and using EMPs to let you engage them hand to hand. You need to learn about your enemies to get to know when to sit back and shoot and when to bayonet charge.
-Healing is difficult. Your healing skills are poultry and healing items hard to come by. What is more, the more often you use pain killers the less effective they become, and if you use too many you will develop a costly addiction. It means you have to take a long-term approach to how you play the game. If you are having to heal after every battle, it is time to change tactics.
Let us know what you think. Not that I can change anything now :-(, but it will be useful for future reference.
Enjoy!
