FYI I still think this discussion is a bit pointless at the minute.

Feels a bit like delusions of grandeur. Perhaps if we were raiding every night there'd be room for this kind of thing. But we're not. So there isn't.

i like the social aspect. i like talking even when questing, it's much more "instant" that typing.

i definately want the vocal communications to be online as much as possible. If we can have 24 hour access then great, if not, fair enough. It's cheap anyway for a small number of users like we have. I'd use it.

I think the way we have it now is fine for the moment. If there became a need, (rather than a greed, hehe), for it in the future then I suppose it makes sense.

But right now? No.

hmm.. im a man of convenience. hehe.

I say Lanzaned try and fire up a ventrillo server. I would be very greatful. If you can't set it up (with all our minds combined) then I will look into forking out a whopping £3 a month for a ventrillo server as important players like Tria can't communicate using the current method.

It's not a strict necessity (is that a word, or have I been watching too much "Jungle Book"?), but it's an extremely affordable nicety. So I can't see what harm there is in having something more accessible and reliable?

If it cost £100, or even £50, I can see your reasoning very clearly. But it doesn't. £3 is peanuts.

I suggest we work out why TS doesn't work for Tria or Joran, (as I said, he has to fuck around to get it to work), before we branch out into Vent.

If you're happy to throw money into a service that will probably be underutilised, go for it. Just registering my dissent.

EDIT: And if we're going to start having more people on TS / Vent, everybody needs to start wearing headphones.

yeah the echo would be mental.

I would have it setup though so that there were different channels. A couple/few for instances (so no interruptions/spam talk) and one for just misc social chat.

Hudders, if I get it it set up it'll be free and I'll set it up so that only the noddegamrans will have access to it. I'm already mucking about with TS and gave Nodd some info on how to connect to the server I've got running to see if it'll work with the bandwidth.

Yeah, that's fine. I just don't think it will be used as much as Nodd envisages.

I'm wondering how many people do you think will be using it on a regular base? This way I can figure out if I need to change anything in the setup for it. I'll be moving it to a dedicated box in a few days time, but that won't change anything as far as the outside world is concerned (except maybe for a bit better speed).

I'd like to know so I can choose which codec would be best suited for the amount of bandwidth available.

i dont see what your getting so knotted up about. More than 2 people will be using it. People use the current method now. I'm not looking for 1000000000000000000000 users ot be chatting away, I'm looking for us to be able to chat whenever, rather than waiting or wondering when Joran will be online.

I really just don't see what's wrong with the current system.

How many users will there be? Probably four or something.

If this were on Dragon's Den they'd all be saying "I'm out" right about now.

*starts singing about reggae reggae sauce*   Cheesy

The problem with the current system is we have to do instances in silence when joran isnt around. As I said before, it's an affordable nicesty. It could even be free. Why be so against something thats improved over the current system? It's what we have already, but it's going to be online all the time rather than randomly.

It's free. If it DOES cost a whopping £3, don't worry - I knew I'd have to fork out for it all myself. It's free to you though. And it's better than what we currently have. Surely you can sleep at night now? lol   Roll Eyes

I'm looking mainly at accomodating 5 people for instances, so that they can communicate vocally anytime. I'm going to have some room though for another 5 incase 2 teams are doing an instance at the same time. That's all we need really, but it would be nice ot have the freedom to expand in the future if required.

What I ideally want is a 24 hour service, but with IronBat handling its configuration and administration. I feel it is his project and want him to have full responsobility over it. I don't mind being the one who pays for it though. I just want what we have now, but 24/7 access.

Im really not botherd about running it, would be nice to have some admin rights on TS just so I can kick/mute people and create channles etc, but I hardly need to be teh r00t!11!1!!11111.

Lanzaned has kindly offerd a solution and I suggest we take it up. If it turns out this isnt working well for us or for Lanzaned then we can always pay for a dedicated TS server.

As for the current level of demand, I agree with Hudders that is lackluster, only me, Hudders and Wishfull/Chubbyfunsta use it often. However having said that if the server is there 24/7 maybe this will in turn create a greater demand.

"If you build it they will come"

So to recap lets go with Lanzaned's server and see how it goes Smiley
