Knights of Noddegamra - Ventrillo Details

Thanks to Lanzaned we now have our very own Ventrillo server. This will be up 99.99% of the time (no one can guarantee 100% uptime). I would also like to thank IronBat (Joran, ingame) for helping configure and setting it up.



What is Ventrillo?
For those wondering what Ventrillo is, it is basically a way to talk online using a microphone or headset. This makes for quick and easy communication when questing, especially in places like instances and raids (Dungeon Quests).



Downloading Ventrillo
You can download Ventrillo here: http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

You will see a list of different versions, but the one you will most likely need (as it depends on your operating system etc) is the "Windows i386 - 32bit" under the "Client Programs" heading. For those wondering if it works with Vista, I have it and it works fine

Please try not to ask for technical support ingame. If you are experiencing problems, please post them in this topic, so we can answer them when we have time to    (it also allows us to post screenshots and detailed info, which will help you more than 100 "whispers" in WoW. haha)

Also please be advised that there is an eight connection limit on Ventrillo. If you are connected but not involved in an instance, you may be asked to disconnect so that somebody else can join. We have not arrived at the point where eight connections is not enough just yet but it is only a matter of time.

I'm almost loathe to bring this up, because I don't want to cause friction but if you are not involved in an instance you should normally remain in the general channel. The instance channels are for instances and extracurricular chatter can mean that party members are not able to communicate effectively. I'm not saying you must stay out of the channels but please remember the primary reason why we have a Vent server in the first place.

Yes, the server is stuck in a continual looping boot, will be trying to get this sorted ASAP, but I fear a re-install is needed and it's too fucking hot

Update: even though it's still too fnarking hot here, I'm doing my best to get the <CENSORED> up and running again. Problem is quite weird. It went from being stuck in a boot loop (XP loading screen, reset) to not wanting to start at all (NTLDR not found) while I did nothing, so I'm guessing it's more than just a software issue (grumble). I'm currently using a too slow laptop to post this, because the big fast (broken) tower is standing with its guts spilled over my floor, the vacuum cleaner next to me and a lot of patience needed.

I'll be making a happy happy post when everything is setup correctly again, though I fear I may have to reinstall a whole lot of shite, sigh, so be it.

Update2: Well, it seems it was something to do with the filesystem on that partition. had to re-install xp completely (bugger) so now I'm downloading a shitload of updates first and when those are done, I'll finally get round to installing the needed components. I found out I lost more than I would've wanted, but nothing that can't be re-installed or downloaded. Luckily my personal stuff was on a completely different drive.
